Group work – 50%
Groups (4 students) will take a contemporary or historical product or service (or family of products/services) and establish its design and innovation origins (in line with the themes and concepts discussed in the module).
The deliverable should describe, link and critique the development process and can take many forms(or combination of forms).
- Examples include:
- A piece of sculpture.
- A model.
- A mood board (e.g. as used by video games companies, design and fashion studios).
- A film ‘collage’ of up to 10 minutes duration.
- A podcast of up to 10 minutes duration.
- A series of A3 posters (up to 4).
- A piece of graphic design.
- Other forms are welcome, but you should ask permission from the module teaching team first.
Checklist
The artefact or artefacts should also capture some element of the future.
- What do design and innovation concepts, theories and frameworks indicate to the group the next or future generations of this product look like and what functionality might they have?
- Ensure that these futures can be justified with reference to theory and practice.
- The seminars in the second semester are dedicated to helping you prepare your artefact.
- Ensure that you attend as a group.
- Students will present their physical (digitised) or digital artefacts and offer explanation in designated sessions; namely, w/c 3 and 10 May 2021.
